1. Hisense monitor
Hisense is a growing Chinese company that's only been selling TVs in North America for a handful of years and is known as a budget-friendly company. They release separate lineups in different regions, and the North American models aren't the same in other regions. Hisense's TVs generally offer great value for their price, and they're better than the competition in terms of value.
In terms of picture quality, most Hisense TVs perform well in dark rooms, with high contrast ratios for displays deep blacks and high peak brightness so that HDR content looks great and bright highlights stand out. Most of their TVs use Android and Google TV as their smart platform, but there are a few with Roku TV.
The Hisense U9DG is the best Hisense TV currently available. It's a very unique TV, combining two LCD panels to achieve a much higher contrast ratio and better local dimming than most LED TVs are capable of, resulting in deep, uniform blacks.
This unique design has a few issues, though, as it has a slow response time and relatively high input lag, resulting in blurry motion, so it isn't ideal for watching sports or playing games. The other 4k Hisense models, including the Hisense U8G and Hisense U7G, have better gaming performance with a quicker response time, but they also have some issues with red ghosting in certain content, so they don't have the best motion handling.
2. LG Monitor
LG Electronics is a subdivision of the South Korean-based LG Corporation, and it's an industry leader in TVs. LG has a subsidiary that manufacturers OLED panels and another that makes the TVs, and although they're independent of each other, they help make LG one of the biggest TV brands in the world. They're one of the few companies that make both OLED and LED-backlit TVs, and while their OLEDs offer the best value and performance compared to other brands, their LED models usually don't deliver the best picture quality. LG also has a unique remote called the Magic Remote that has a point-and-press feature, making it easy to navigate through the menus.
The best LG TV available now is the LG G2 OLED. It performs a lot like most other OLED displays, but it features a new-and-improved OLED panel that allows it to display brighter whites than previous generations. The G2 features a unique design, as it's designed to sit flush against the wall with the included wall mount, but this means it doesn't include a stand. If you want a TV with a stand, the LG C2 OLED is also a fantastic choice. They have the same great features as most of LG's other OLED displays, including some amazing gaming features like FreeSync and G-SYNC variable refresh rate, low input lag, and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four HDMI ports.
3. Samsung Monitor
Samsung is a South Korean company that's a world leader in consumer electronics. Along with Sony and LG, they're one of the best TV brands and one of the companies that often come out with new technologies before anyone else. For example, they were one of the first brands to introduce quantum dot
TVs in 2015, which they later marketed as QLED to compete with LG's OLED models. They also released the first QD-OLED TV in 2022, which combines quantum dot technology with an OLED panel to display a wide range of colors with perfect black levels. It builds on existing OLED technology by replacing standard color filters with a quantum dot layer, resulting in much brighter colors than traditional OLED displays.
The best Samsung TV you can buy is the Samsung S95B OLED. It's Samsung's first display to use the new display technology known as QD-OLED. It has the same perfect inky blacks in a dark room as traditional OLEDs, with no blooming or distracting haloing around bright objects, and it has good peak brightness in HDR, so bright highlights stand out. However,
its black levels raise in bright rooms, meaning that blacks look gray when there's light on the screen, so it doesn't perform as well in a bright environment. If you want a Samsung TV that does, their Mini LED lineup that features the Samsung QN90B QLED easily gets bright enough to fight glare.
4. Sony Monitor
Sony is an international entertainment and technology company based in Japan. They make all kinds of different electronics, and they also produce movies and video game consoles. In terms of their TVs, they're one of the most well-known companies alongside Samsung and LG.
While Samsung specializes in LED displays and LG dominates in the world of OLEDs, Sony produces great OLED and LED TVs, but they tend to be more expensive than the competition. In 2022, they also started producing QD-OLED and Mini LED TVs to compete with Samsung. Their lineup is smaller than other brands, and they tend to stay away from entry-level, low-cost models.
The best Sony TV on the market is the Sony A90J OLED. Like all OLED displays, it delivers pure, inky blacks in a dark room, with absolutely no noticeable blooming around bright objects. This TV stands out from the competitors for its accuracy, making it a great choice for movie buffs looking for the most accurate image possible. It has decent peak brightness in HDR, which,
thanks to its nearly-infinite contrast ratio, results in an impressive HDR experience. If you prefer an LED option, then the Sony X95K has the best all-around picture quality in terms of bright and dark room performance, and while the Sony X90K is a step down, it also offers great overall performance, so you're sure to find what you need with Sony.
5. T C L Monitor
Another budget-friendly brand, TCL is a relatively new company in the TV market as they started selling TVs in the United States in 2013. TCL doesn't use a proprietary smart platform and instead uses either Roku TV or Google TV, depending on the model. Both options have a great selection of streaming apps, but the Google TV platform offers a more polished interface, while some people find that Roku is easier to use.
Even though most of their 2020 models included Roku, like the TCL 6 Series/R635 2020 QLED, their 2021 lineup focuses on Google TV. Unlike other brands, they continued making their 2020 models once the 2021 versions came out, so you could choose whichever smart platform you want.
TCL offers a wide range of TVs, including small 720p and 1080p models like the TCL 3 Series 2019, but the best TCL TV currently available is the TCL 6 Series/R646 2021 QLED. It's a great TV, with a fantastic native contrast ratio, resulting in deep, uniform blacks that look great in a dark room.
It features Mini LED backlighting, allowing for tighter control of the local dimming zones, resulting in less haloing around bright objects in dark scenes than traditional LED backlights. Bright highlights stand out, and thanks to its great HDR color gamut, colors look vivid. It also supports all three main HDR formats, HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, so you don't have to worry about compatibility with your favorite streaming service.
